Individual Therapy
Individual therapy constitutes a relationship between the client and therapist, working towards a common goal. People seek therapy for various reasons related to loss, trauma or personal development. The specific needs of the individual determine the approaches I take in individual therapy, but I may incorporate various techniques.
Adjustment Difficulties
The average individual takes 3 to 6 months to adjust to a new situation (not including loss/bereavement). Developing tools and insight into the ‘new normal’ is a skill that allows for an opportunity to reframe the current situation and approach it in the healthiest frame of mind.
Adjustment difficulties is often a diagnosis that is given too little attention, as today’s world lends towards constant change.
Immigration forms part of adjustment difficulties and counselling for Immigration is available.
Boundaries and assertiveness
boundaries are a necessary skill in today’s world. research shows that anxiety, depression and burnout escalates significantly due to neglect in setting boundaries.
individuals who struggle to set boundaries and assert themselves are generally people pleasers who fear rejection or individuals who lack self awareness. unfortunately, poor boundaries result in people setting precedents that aren’t sustainable and lead to utter exhaustion.
it is an essential skill to develop to allow for a healthy way of engaging, both in relationships as well as in the workplace.
Relationship Counselling
Couples therapy involves counselling both partners to work through relationship or marital issues and form a closer bond. This kind of psychotherapy helps deal with various relationship difficulties.
All couple sessions are 90 minutes over Zoom.
Roles and responsibilities
Our expectations of each other impact our roles in a relationship. Poor communication and unrealistic expectations can lead to unhealthy dynamics that strain the relationship.
Children
When it comes to children, both partners need to be on the same page about all aspects, whether it's about having children or not, adopting or raising them.
My Treatment Modalities
Developing a trusting relationship is essential for personal growth, awareness and insight. Therefore, my approach is to utilise various treatment modalities to determine the best fit for my client’s presenting difficulties.Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical approach to detecting harmful thought patterns and changing them to be more productive and positive.
Transactional Analysis
Transactional Analysis Therapy is a psychotherapy method that analyses an individual’s relationships and interactions to understand their personality.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) works similarly to CBT but is used for more long-term psychological conditions.
Object Relations Therapy
Object Relations Therapy is based on how an individual situates themself relative to their environment.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is a scientifically based neurological intervention that is very effective in treating trauma and underlying anxiety conditions.
